Exam Pattern & Section Breakdown

The CUET UG exam gives students the flexibility to select their desired subjects. The examination is divided into three distinct sections:

Section I: Language Test

  • Format: 50 questions per language (40 must be attempted).
  • Time Allocation: 45 minutes per language (except for some combinations requiring 60 minutes).
  • Syllabus: Tests reading comprehension (factual, literary, and narrative passages), vocabulary, and literary aptitude.

Section II: Domain-Specific Subjects

  • Format: 50 questions per subject (40 must be attempted).
  • Time Allocation: 45 minutes per subject (select subjects like Accountancy, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Economics, and Computer Science receive 60 minutes).
  • Syllabus: Based entirely on the NCERT Class 12 syllabus. You can choose from 23 different domain subjects.

Section III: General Aptitude Test (GAT)

  • Format: 60 questions (50 must be attempted).
  • Time Allocation: 60 minutes.
  • Syllabus: Covers General Knowledge, Current Affairs, Mental Ability, Numerical Ability, Quantitative Reasoning (up to Grade 8 level), and Logical & Analytical Reasoning.

Marking Scheme:

  • +5 marks for every correct answer.
  • -1 mark for every incorrect answer.
  • 0 marks for unanswered questions.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Educational Qualification: Candidates must have passed their Class 12 board exams (or equivalent) from a recognized educational board.
  • Minimum Marks: Generally, 50% for General category and 45% for SC/ST candidates, though specific university requirements may vary.
  • Age Limit: There is no upper age limit to appear for CUET UG, provided the candidate meets the educational qualifications.
  • Stream Flexibility: Students are allowed to appear for subjects irrespective of the stream they studied in Class 12.
